The traditional leaders of the Sanaag and Haylaan regions have jointly issued a press release clarifying their position on political issues in the region, and on meetings reportedly to be held in Lascaanod.

The leaders stated that the Sanaag and Haylaan regions are among the regions that were established in Puntland in 1998, and they are still fully part of Puntland, which has not changed. They called on Puntland to further strengthen the development and defense of these regions.

The leaders also stated that there was no political conference held by the local clans, saying that no political decisions were made. They told the traditional leaders and the Khaatumo administration that there was no representative of the Sanaag and Haylaan communities at the conference that was said to be held in Lascaanod, and they are completely absent from anything that came out of that conference.

The group also demanded that the SSC Khaatumo issue a full apology for its interference in the affairs of the Sanaag and Haylaan clans, which they described as damaging to harmony, stability, and neighborliness.

The group sent a message to the international community that there is no conference or new administration building that they are part of, and that they have not entered into any agreements with anyone.

Finally, they called on the Federal Government of Somalia to act on its constitutional responsibilities and avoid causing conflict between fraternal and neighboring clans, in order to preserve unity, stability, and overall peace in the country.
