Former Speaker of the Puntland Parliament, poet Abdirashid Yusuf and delegates representing the Sanaag and Haylaan regions have arrived in Lascaanod city, where the Khaatumo Regional State Completion Conference will open in October.
Abdirashid Yusuf Jibriil said last night at a conference held in Damale Xaggare that the time between Buuhoodle and Lasqoray, which were administered by Garowe and Hargeisa, has ended, saying that his Warsangali community and its residents have decided to establish SSC Khaatumo.
The former Speaker of the Puntland Parliament accused President Deni of preparing 5,000 soldiers to pressure the people of Sanaag, in order to harvest the natural resources of Sanaag.
He said his people are ready to deliberate and become independent from Somaliland and Puntland.
On the side of the SSC Khaatumo conference committee, they welcomed the points that emerged from the conference held in Damale Xaggare, saying that they recognize the delegates from Sanaag and Haylaan as the right delegates to participate in the conference.
On the other hand, most of the elders and intellectuals in the Sanaag region have opposed the action of the former speaker of the Puntland Parliament. They are clearly opposed to the activities he is carrying out in the Sanaag region.
The elders accused the SSC Khaatumo administration of encroaching on the Sanaag and Haylaan areas, which they say are part of Puntland. They accused the Federal Government of working to divide and sow discord between the Dhulbahante and Warsangali clans.
Yesterday, the Puntland president called on the SSC Khaatumo administration to stay on their land, warning them against their interference in the Sanaag region. Deni said Sanaag will never be part of the SSC.
