The Ministry of Interior and Local Government of Hirshabelle State today held the election of the district chairman and deputy chairman in Balcad district of Middle Shabelle region.
Members of the Balcad district council elected Qasim Ali Nur as the district chairman and mayor of Balcad district.
Ismail Barre Nur was also elected as the first deputy chairman of the district, while Ahmed Mohamed Abdullahi was elected as the second deputy chairman.
The election ceremony held today in Balcad district was attended by several officials from Hirshabelle, led by the Minister of Interior and Local Government, Abdi Dahir Guure Karoore.
After the election, Minister Karoore thanked the people of the district for their role in the process of establishing the Balcad district council in Middle Shabelle region.
Finally, the election held by Hirshabelle in Balcad district today was strongly opposed by the State Minister of Foreign Affairs of Somalia, Ali Omar, Ali Balcad, who accused Hirshabelle President Ali Guudlawe of violating the agreement of the National Consultative Council that the country should hold direct elections. This serves to push the country towards indirect elections and create further conflict within the community.
