Somalia’s Minister of Foreign Affairs, Ali Balcad, who spoke to Universal TV, said that there was never a discussion between Somalia and Ethiopia on a sea and a port to be given to Ethiopia.

Ali Balcad said that the only talks are that Ethiopia is allowed to import goods from Somali ports by investing in Somali ports and the roads connecting the two countries.

The Minister of State dismissed Ethiopia’s desire to have a waterway under its own control and to be controlled by the Government.

The biggest dispute over Ethiopia’s desire for Somali water is the result of the agreement with Somaliland and it is mentioned that they will get a waterway and a military base which was boycotted by the Somali government but later it was mediated by Turkey that the government agreed to give Ethiopia a waterway but not a military base.

The statement made by the Minister of Foreign Affairs of Somalia, Ali Balad, comes just hours after the visit of the Prime Minister of Ethiopia, Abiy Ahmed, to Mogadishu.
