The United States government has dismissed reports that the US special envoy to the Horn of Africa, Mike Hammer, praised the controversial agreement between Somaliland and Ethiopia, after a recent trip to Addis Ababa.
“The news about the statement made by the special envoy of the United States in charge of the Horn of Africa, Mike Hammer, regarding the agreement between Somaliland and Ethiopia is false,” the American embassy in Mogadishu said in a statement published on X website.
However, a report published a few days ago on The African Herald said that the US ambassador to the Horn of Africa praised the diplomatic efforts of President Bihi.
Amb. Mike Hammer praised President Muse Bihi for his role in promoting stability in the region through the recent agreement between Somaliland and Ethiopia.
The United States has already opposed the maritime agreement between Somaliland and Ethiopia, describing the agreement as a threat to the stability of the region.
