The Federal Government of Somalia has ordered the closure of the Ethiopian consulates in Garowe (Puntland) and Hargeisa (Somaliland).
A press release issued by the Somali Cabinet of Ministers said that the two consulates will be closed within a week.
The Somali government has accused Ethiopia of openly interfering in the internal affairs of the Federal Republic of Somalia, while the government pointed out that these violations are against the independence of Somalia.
The government of Somalia has also ordered the diplomats and employees of the Ethiopian government working in the two consulates in the two cities to leave the country within a week.
“Diplomats of the Ethiopian government who do not comply with this resolution are committing a violation against the sovereignty of the Federal Republic of Somalia, and additional measures will be taken against them in accordance with the rules of international diplomacy.” said the government.
The government of Somalia has finally instructed the Ministry of Foreign Affairs to officially convey this resolution to the government of Ethiopia and to inform the Ethiopian Ambassador to the Federal Republic of Somalia to return to his country for consultation.
