The House of Representatives of Somaliland has approved by a majority vote the Somaliland elections law which is still disputed, the law will be implemented as it was submitted by the Senate.
The third deputy chairman of the House of Representatives, Ali Hamud Jibril, said that the law is in force, if the president does not sign it, the council will enforce it.
“If the president does not sign it, before we sign it, we will make an official announcement. I am saying that they do not care about Awdal who was speaking there yesterday, they are going to attack the people of Awdal and the coalition,” said Ali Hamud.
MP Mohamed Abiib described the majority votes of the Somaliland House of Representatives and the Somaliland Senate as a historic victory.
“The article that says 20% is not created now, it was created in 2000, which was included in the 2002 election, and it was included in 2012. What is new?” He said MP Mohamed Abib.
The Vice President of Somaliland and other officials from Awdal yesterday rejected the new law, rejecting the clause that states that 20% of the total votes must be obtained by organizations to become parties, and they want the clause to be made into an addition.
The Senate also passed the law by a majority vote yesterday, the government, the UCID party, the Hellaac organization and other organizations want one more vote, while Waddani and Kaahna want 20%.
