The Federal Government of Somalia and the Arab Republic of Egypt have officially denied reports circulating on social media that Somali passports have been suspended and denied travel to Egypt.
Flights between Somalia and Egypt were operating normally on Friday, with no reported changes to travel or immigration procedures between the two countries.
Egypt Air said in an official statement that there was no “suspension or restriction on the acceptance of Somali passports”. The airline clarified that Somali passengers with valid travel documents and required entry permits can travel to Cairo as usual.
The Somali Immigration and Citizenship Authority also confirmed that movement between the two countries remains unchanged, urging the public to avoid unverified information and rely on official and accurate sources.
The fake news that has spread in recent hours has caused concern among Somali travelers planning to visit or transit through Egypt.
The governments of Somalia and Egypt have stressed that there are strong diplomatic relations and long-standing cooperation, especially in the fields of education, politics, trade, and security.
