Officials from the Federal Government of Somalia have signed a €102 million agreement with senior officials from the European Union (EU), specifically the EU Office for Somalia and the EU International Relations Office.
The €102 million agreement between Somalia and the European Union is part of the EU’s ongoing budgetary support to the Somali government.
Somali Finance Minister Bihi Imaan Cige and Planning Minister Abdirahman Beene Beene were among the Somali government officials who reached the agreement with EU officials.
Minister of National Planning Abdirahman Beene Beene said that the agreement will benefit development, especially education and the development of areas liberated from Al-Shabaab.
“This money is intended for four areas, including improving the quality of education by attracting more students, and 30 million of the money is intended for the federal government and the regional governments to develop the areas liberated from the Khawarij enemy,” said Minister of National Planning Abdirahman Beene Beene.
Somali Finance Minister Bihi Imaan Cige thanked the European Union for its continued support to the Somali government, especially the budget support, which he noted plays a key role in Somalia’s economic growth and development projects.
Finally, the two sides stressed the importance of using this support efficiently and in line with the national development plan, to ensure sustainable and effective results that directly benefit the Somali people.
