The Minister of Defense of Somalia, Ahmed Moallim Fiqi, is on an official visit to Italy, where he held an important meeting with the Minister of Defense of the Italian Republic, Guido Crosetto.
The meeting, which took place in Rome, focused on strengthening bilateral cooperation in the areas of defense, maritime security, counter-terrorism, the training and professionalization of the Somali National Army, as well as financing the new AUSSOM mission.
The two Ministers underlined the importance of a genuine partnership based on mutual interests and a long-term vision for regional stability.
They also reaffirmed their commitment to implementing joint projects under Italy’s Mattei Plan, which aims to enhance cooperation between Italy and African countries.
Minister Ahmed Fiqi and his Italian counterpart reiterated the strengthening of the traditional relations between Somalia and Italy, noting that this relationship is a solid foundation for efforts to strengthen peace, security, and stability in Somalia and in the Horn of Africa region as a whole.
The visit of the Italian Minister of Defense was described as strengthening Italy’s role in supporting Somalia, especially in the areas of military reconstruction and counterterrorism.
