Security forces in Beledhawo district have succeeded in arresting a plotter who was planning a terrorist act that would endanger the lives of civilians and local security forces, following a planned operation conducted at night.

The man, whose name has not yet been released due to ongoing investigations, was arrested while planting two landmines in a key location regularly used by civilians and security forces vehicles.

The mines are believed to have been intended to target military vehicles and local residents, according to the Somali National Army media outlet.

The officers leading the operation said that the plotter was caught with the tools he would use to plant the mines, which clearly shows that he fully intended to carry out the act.

A thorough investigation has also been launched to determine if he has any links to terrorist groups or other networks, whether internal or external.

Security forces have commended the people of Beledhawo district for their awareness of dangerous foreign activities in the area, and called on them to redouble their vigilance and work closely with security agencies.
