A memorial has been erected at the site of the bombing of Chief Abdullahi Omar Abdi, a member of the Samadoon in Sanaag region, demanding justice and transparency in his killing.

“We demand justice and transparency from the US government for the killing of a traditional leader we do not like,” reads a message on the monument.

The wreckage of the vehicle in which the chief was targeted lies next to the monument, which is said to remain there until the US acknowledges the aggression against the chief.

Recently, the deceased’s family met with the President of Puntland, demanding that Puntland clarify its role in the killing. President Deni said that the US did not give any notice of the chief’s killing, but that the government is investigating the case.

The chief was killed in an airstrike carried out by US forces in Sanaag region on the 13th of last month.

Two weeks later, the US confirmed the strike, saying it targeted a member of a terrorist group involved in arms trafficking.

Following this claim, protests against the US and Puntland took place in parts of the Sanaag region.
