The Federal Government of Somalia has provided further details on the attack carried out by Al-Shabaab in Jilicow Cave in the Boondheere district of Mogadishu yesterday afternoon.

A press release from the Ministry of Internal Security stated that the attack was a cowardly one carried out by 7 Al-Shabaab militants, and they succeeded in killing all of them.

“Security forces succeeded in putting an end to the terrorist attack within a short period of time, and shot all the perpetrators of the attack, who numbered seven (7) members,” the Ministry of Internal Security said in a press release.

The Ministry of Internal Security of the Federal Government of Somalia has also ordered security forces at checkpoints to search government vehicles in Mogadishu, and monitor the movement of weapons and vehicles in order to strengthen security in Mogadishu.

“Security agencies are specifically instructed to strictly control the movement of weapons and military vehicles within the capital. This demonstrates the urgent need to ensure and control vehicles painted in military colors within the capital,” the Ministry of Internal Security said in a press release.

The order from the Ministry comes after Al-Shabaab members wearing government military uniforms and a vehicle spray-painted with the NISA logo attacked Godka Jilicow, the NISA headquarters in the Banadir region, late yesterday.

“It is imperative to fully implement the rules, procedures and administrative decisions regarding the security of the capital and arms control,” said a press release from the Ministry of Internal Security of Somalia.

However, this new order will directly affect the forces using armored vehicles if it comes into effect, as previously only civilian vehicles were checked at checkpoints, which are seen in long queues at intersections in Mogadishu.
