More information is emerging about a planned operation that took place in Moqokori district of Hiran region, in which three of the group’s senior officers responsible for Hiran region were killed.
The operation was carried out by the Somali National Intelligence and Security Agency (NISA) in collaboration with international partners.
A brief statement from the federal government stated that the operation targeted three important leaders of the Al-Shabaab group, who had previously caused serious damage in the Hiran region.
Among the three leaders killed in the airstrike was Abdi Hiiray, who was said to be one of the group’s senior officers and was behind attacks and insecurity in the Hiran and Middle Shabelle regions.
The government statement also stated that more details about the operation and its official results will be released in the coming hours.
This airstrike that killed these Al-Shabaab leaders comes as government forces, supported by international partners, have increased their operations targeting Al-Shabaab leaders and militias in recent times.
