The President of the Federal Government of Somalia, Hassan Sheikh Mohamud, spoke for the first time about the new system implemented by his government, the E-visa Program, which has been the talk of the Somali community in recent days.

The President, who delivered a multifaceted speech yesterday at an event to present the achievements of the DanQaran Government during its three-year term, said that it will not be acceptable for someone to enter the country with a foreign passport without a visa.

He pointed out to President Hassan Sheikh that the country is moving towards digitalization, and that changes have been made to various services that were previously provided by the Federal Government.

“You cannot enter another country with a Somali passport without a visa, in the same way, a foreigner or a Somali citizen with a foreign passport cannot enter our country without a visa,” said President Hassan Sheikh Mohamud.

The President also noted that a person with a Somali passport does not need a visa, and is a citizen who has the right to enter the country without a visa.

“A person with a foreign passport, whether Somali or white, is the same. If a person holds a foreign passport, we are Somalis, and now we hold a foreign passport. I ask you, is there a Somali passport that allows you to go to any foreign country without a visa? The answer is no, and you cannot enter the country without a visa on foreign passports,” said President Hassan Sheikh Mohamud.

The president’s statement comes as the E-Visa program was implemented in the country on September 1, making it legal for foreigners to enter Somalia.
