The President of Somalia, Hassan Sheikh Mohamud, has announced that political efforts are underway to resolve the dispute between the Federal Government and the Puntland and Jubbaland administrations. In an exclusive interview with Al Arabiya Television, the President made it clear that there are various channels for dialogue aimed at finding a lasting solution to the political misunderstanding between the parties.

President Hassan Sheikh indicated that the issue of local elections is currently the priority, while general elections will come in due course. He also expressed hope that an agreement will be reached on the Jubbaland dispute before the local and national elections.

“But we are still in dialogue with Puntland and Jubbaland, and we hope that the Jubbaland issue will be resolved before the local and national elections. We will continue the dialogue and communication, Puntland is aware of this.” said Somali President Hassan Sheikh Mohamud

The remarks come as the country prepares for crucial elections, and there are concerns about political divisions that could affect the smooth running of the democratic process.

President Hassan Sheikh’s interview with Al Arabiya can be interpreted as a further effort by the central government to unify the political views of the administrations in order to strengthen the unity of the Federal Government of Somalia.

In recent days, some media outlets have been reporting that the UAE government is making efforts to mediate between the central government and the Jubaland and Puntland administrations.
