The Somali Migration Agency says it is working hard to combat extremism and secure its borders in cooperation with international partners, according to its Director General, Mustafa Sheikh Ali Dhuhulow, who spoke to Turkey’s Anadolu Agency.
Mustafa Dhuhulow said the agency is particularly focused on preventing members of Al-Qaeda, ISIS and Al-Shabaab from entering or leaving the country. Three months ago, the director said they implemented the PISCES system, supported by the United States, which ensures that no one leaves or enters the country without an official record. He added that they have signed an agreement with Interpol to use the international watch list.
He also noted that the agency has close ties with countries including the UK, Germany, Switzerland, Norway and Finland, which have pledged to further strengthen cooperation in migration and security.
When discussing Turkey’s role, Dhuhulow described Turkey as a very close ally in the fight against Al-Shabaab, describing it as a brother who has long stood by Somalia.
Dhuhulow underlined that the agency is working hard to combat extremism. He noted that the agency ensures that there are no illegal migrants coming from or going to Somalia, and that ongoing efforts have led to Somali migration becoming an integral part of the state system.
