Hirshabelle State Minister of Interior Abdi Dahir Guure Karore has strongly accused the Federal Government of Somalia of standing by in the long-running war between the people of Hiran and the Al-Shabaab militants.

Minister Karore said that the Mawiis forces of Hiran did not receive the support they needed from the Federal Government, which led to a halt in their fight against the group.

“The Federal Government has clearly neglected the Mawiis and initially the government forces in Hiran relied on the Mawiis for strength, and when they were defeated, it was as if the government had been defeated,” said Hirshabelle State Minister of Interior Abdi Dahir Guure Karore.

Minister Karore also pointed out that the Mawiis of Hiran bravely entered the war against Al-Shabaab, and their successes in the war against Al-Shabaab were clearly visible.

“The people of Hiran are a united people who have sacrificed their blood and wealth to defend their region, they are not people who are accustomed to begging, today they deserve real support and they have lost their support from the Government and the other Somali people,” said Minister Karoore.

The statement by the Hirshabelle Minister of Interior comes as Al-Shabaab has recaptured many areas in the Hiran region that were previously liberated from the group two years ago.
