The Cabinet of the Federal Government of Somalia on Thursday approved defense agreements signed by Somalia with Jordan, Qatar and Pakistan.
The weekly meeting of the Cabinet was chaired by the First Deputy Prime Minister of the Federal Government of Somalia, Saleh Ahmed Jama.
The agreements approved by the Council were described as important for the Federal Government of Somalia, especially in terms of building the Somali Armed Forces.
The Minister of Defense of Somalia, Ahmed Macalin Fiqi, presented the agreements to the Cabinet, and briefed them on the process followed and the benefits that Somalia can benefit from.
“The MoUs approved by the cabinet are: a MoU between the Ministry of Defense of the Federal Democratic Republic of Somalia and the Ministry of Defense of the Kingdom of Jordan, a MoU between the Ministry of Defense of the Federal Democratic Republic of Somalia and the Ministry of Defense of the Government of Qatar, and a MoU between the Ministry of Defense of the Federal Democratic Republic of Somalia and the Ministry of Defense of the Islamic Republic of Pakistan,” a statement from the Prime Minister’s Office said.
The general security situation in the country and the ongoing operations in the country to eliminate ISIS and Al-Shabaab were also discussed at today’s cabinet meeting.
