The Ministry of Civil Aviation and Aviation of the Federal Government of Somalia has announced that all its services are linked to the use of the National Identity Card issued by the National Identification and Registration Authority (NIRA).
A press release from the Ministry of Civil Aviation and Aviation of Somalia stated that this decision was made at the Council of Ministers meeting held on April 7, 2025.
The Council of Ministers of the Federal Government of Somalia emphasized the importance of integrating government services and achieving a unified use of official identification.
“Anyone who wishes to access services provided by the Ministry such as driving licenses, vehicle registration, or other transport-related services, is required to have a National Identity Card,” the press release from the Ministry of Civil Aviation and Aviation of Somalia said.
This new decision from the Ministry of Civil Aviation and Aviation of Somalia also affects public transport companies and their shareholders.
The ministry also stated in its statement that this step is part of the implementation of the National Transformation Plan adopted in March 2025, which aims to ensure the security of the country and the identity of the Somali citizen.
