A number of mortar shells were fired early this morning in parts of Wadajir district in Mogadishu, with some of the shells reportedly hitting the AUSSOM command center in Xalane, located on the outskirts of Aden Adde airport in Mogadishu.
Witnesses near Aden Adde airport told the media that they heard up to four consecutive hits in the vicinity of Aden Adde airport.
The total number of mortar shells is said to be around six, while the location of the other two is unknown, but the exact casualties from the shelling on the Xalane camp are still unknown.
Minutes after the sound of the shells, Al-Shabaab posted on its website that they were behind the mortar attack on Xalane.
There was no immediate comment from the federal government security forces or the AUSSOM command regarding the mortars used in the attack or whether they caused any casualties.
Finally, this attack is part of a series of artillery attacks that the group has carried out several times this year on the Halane Camp and around the Somali presidential palace.
