A Somali man living in Minneapolis who was accused of showing support for the attack on a truck in New Orleans, which killed 14 people, has been accused of trying to join the Daesh group, as announced by US prosecutors.

Abdisatar Ahmed Hassan, 22 years old, was brought to court for the first time on charges of attempting to provide support to a foreign terrorist organization. He was ordered held without bail pending a sentencing hearing scheduled for March 5.

In the lawsuit against a man who is an American citizen, it is said that he tried twice in December to travel from Minnesota to Somalia to join the Daesh group, but he did not succeed.

He claimed to be visiting his family, but investigators said he had no relatives in Somalia.

Prosecutors said that the FBI’s investigation revealed that Abdisatar publicly supported the Islamic State group on social media, posting several posts of support. Also, he praised Shamsud-Din Jabbar on TikTok for the attack on New Orleans.

This man is also said to have posted a video last week while driving a car with the ISIS flag inside the car. The FBI said he was arrested Thursday.

The documents of the case also show that the New York police and the FBI said that the man published posts on social media in support of the Al-Shabaab group.

An FBI official said that investigators found videos promoting Al-Shabaab and ISIS that were spread on TikTok and Facebook. Also, he was accused of sharing messages with Somali speakers to travel and fight with ISIS.
