The President of the Federal Government of Somalia, Hassan Sheikh Mohamud, who today officially opened the 6th Session of the 11th Parliament of the country, praised the chairman, the members of the House of People and the Upper House for the great work done in the previous sessions of the Parliament.
President Hassan Sheikh Mohamud told the Parliament of the two Houses of the country many issues including the political agreements of the National Forum and the Parliament’s approval of the first four chapters of the Constitution, which he noted led to the implementation of the plan for direct elections, and overcoming the indirect elections that were a challenge to the government of the country.
Hassan Sheikh Mohamud called on the Federal Parliament of Somalia to complete the missing chapters of the Constitution in the 6th session that opened today, to overcome the differences that have crippled the Somali government.
“Brothers, the Somali people are looking to us, and they have entrusted us with the duty to move them from the place they have been in the indirect elections. We must give them the opportunity to be free in their minds, free their thoughts, and choose with their free votes who will represent them. It is unwise to convince ourselves to go back to the ugly way of nominations and indirect elections,” said President Hassan Sheikh Mohamud.
He also mentioned to the president that after the debt forgiveness at the end of 2023, emphasis was put on how Somalia would benefit from its resources, and he said that the government of Somalia has not taken any debt in the past period, and it has tried to secure and manage the funds that come from the taxes paid by Somali citizens.
President Hassan Sheikh Mohamud also praised businessmen and Somali taxpayers in general for their commitment to the development and stability of the country.
