The Africom mission has announced that an airstrike requested by the Somali government has killed 10 Al-Shabaab fighters.
The attack took place in Beer Hani area, 35 km northwest of Kismayo city, Lower Jubba.
The press release stated that the attack occurred on Dec. 31, 2024, was a joint self-defense that the United States and Somalia carried out in that area, while the American forces also helped the Somali forces to evacuate the attacked soldiers.
Africom also announced that Dec. 24, 2024, another attack killed Mohamed Mire, who was a senior leader of Al-Shabaab in charge of the regions for the past 15 years.
Mire, known as Abu Abdirahman, was designated by the US State Department in 2022 as an international terrorist.
Africom Commander, Gen. Michael Langley, said that Al-Shabaab remains an international threat, which the United States is fighting in cooperation with regional countries to strengthen security and stability.
