The Confederation of African Football (CAF) has announced that Somali referee Omar Abdulkadir Artan will be the fourth referee for the Super Cup match between Al Ahly and Zamalek. The match, which will be held on September 27, will take place at the Kingdom Arena in Saudi Arabia, starting at 9 PM CET.

The referee will be Moataz Ibrahim from Libya, while the assistant referees are Attia A’mesead and Khalil El Hassany from Tunisia. Tom Abungil from South Africa will head the VAR team, assisted by Zakaria Brensy from Morocco. Tickets for the match have already been sold, which shows the interest and demand for this match.

The appointment of Artan is a symbol of the progress made by Somali referees, as he became the first Somali to referee the Africa Cup of Nations.

Artan, 30, has earned a high reputation for his clear decisions and refereeing composure since joining the CAF referee list in 2020.

The Super Cup match is between Al Ahly, who won the CAF Champions League, and Zamalek, who holds the CAF Confederation Cup. The last time the two teams played in the Super Cup was in 1994, when Zamalek won 0-1.
