The British government has announced that the Somali government has forgiven all its debts, after a meeting between the Minister of Finance of Somalia Bihi Iman Cige and the officials of the UK Embassy in Somalia at the British Embassy in Mogadishu.
The meeting between Somali Finance Minister Bihi Iman and the Deputy Ambassador of the British Embassy in Mogadishu, Sam Thomas, which lasted for many hours, finally the Deputy Ambassador assured the Somali Finance Minister that the UK government has forgiven Somalia 100% of its debts.
“This issue is following the recent decision made by the countries that are members of the Paris Club, that decision stated that the Somali government should hold special talks with the Paris Club countries, in order to complete the forgiveness of the debts owed by some countries” said in a statement issued by the Office of Minister Bihi Iman.
The Minister of Finance of the Federal Government of Somalia, Bihi Iman Cige, said that the UK has forgiven all of Somalia’s debts, saying it was a victory for the Somali government.
