The Minister of Defense of the Federal Government of Somalia Abdukadir Mohamed Noor said that this step is a preliminary to the plan of the armed forces of the country to take over the security of the country.
“The security of the presidential office, where the offices of the president, the prime minister and the parliament are located, was officially taken over by the army today, which is the beginning of the army regaining all the security of the country. as soon as possible,” said Minister Abduqadir Mohamed Noor.
The peacekeeping forces in Somalia operating under the name of ATMIS are said to be gradually leaving the country until the end of next year 2024, and it is also planned that about 3,000 ATMIS members will leave the country by the end of this month. leave.
Minister Abdulqadir Mohamed Noor also said that other government facilities will soon also be taken over by the Somali government forces.
“Aden Adde airport and the main port of Mogadishu, which are the main centers of the government, will still be occupied by the ATMIS army, and we will take them over,” said Minister of Defense Abduqadir Mohamed Nuir.
However, the takeover of the Somali National Army’s headquarters is coming soon, as the ATMIS army is expected to withdraw completely from Somalia by the end of next year.
