The Prime Minister of Somalia, Hamse Abdi Barre, today Saturday appointed the committee for the census, return, assessment and advice on the regulation of the national wealth.

This committee, which consists of 8 members including ministers, the governor of Banadir region and the attorney general of the government, has been mandated to return the Somali national property that is illegally held.

This committee will also conduct a survey of the assets of independent government agencies and local governments, assess the condition of these assets and the best way to use them.

The spokesperson of the Somali government, Farhan Mohamed Jimale, said that the assets of the government, when they are returned, will be used to fulfill the needs of the national work.

The appointment of this committee follows a resolution issued a few days ago by the cabinet, which is based on financial management, revenue management, procurement and national contracts, management of public assets and administration and personnel management.

The cabinet described this resolution as important for the protection of public property, the fight against corruption and the management of national property in an efficient manner that serves the public interest.
