The new ambassador to the UK and the Minister of Foreign Affairs of Somalia passed the identification documents.

The Minister of Foreign Affairs and International Cooperation of the Federal Government of Somalia, Abshir Omar Jama Haruse, received a copy of the diplomatic credentials from the new British Ambassador Michael Nithavrianakis.

Ambassador Michael Nithavrianakis has replaced the former British ambassador to Somalia, Kate Foster, and in the next few hours, President Hassan Sheikh Mohamud will receive credentials from the new British ambassador to Somalia.

“Today I received a copy of the diplomatic credentials from the new ambassador of the British government to our country, Mr. Michael Nithavrianakis. Our country and the UK have a deep relationship of cooperation, and we work together in the fields of security, development projects, economy and aid.

The UK was the first government in Western countries to open an embassy in Mogadishu in 2013,” said Somalia’s foreign minister, Abshir Omar Jama Haruse.

Ambassador Michael Nithavrianakis is a seasoned diplomat who has held a number of roles at the Foreign Office, most recently as Consul General and Director of Trade and Investment at the UK Consulate in Milan, Italy, from 2022 to 2023, and has also served as UK embassies and consulates in countries such as Pakistan, Afghanistan, Greece, Saudi Arabia and Ghana.
