The Office of the Attorney General of the Somali Government has filed charges against 36 foreign defendants in the Banadir Regional Court.

These foreigners are accused of illegal fishing, and the prosecutor’s office has asked the regional court to postpone their trial.

A statement issued by the National Prosecutor’s Office said that these fishermen abused the country’s resources and were fishing illegally in the sea of Somalia.

The prosecutor’s office said that action will be taken against these fishermen, to set an example for anyone who tries to trespass into Somali waters.

The Somali navy arrested the fishermen last month, with more than 30 tons of fish, which they took out of the Somali sea without permission.

The government of Somalia has taken over the fish, informing the community a few days ago that it will sell the fish, after the court ruled that it should be auctioned.
