The Costa Rican government has arrested and deported Lutrnan Warsame Farah, who is said to be the eldest son of a senior leader of the Al-Shabaab group.

The man was arrested in Costa Rica, where he was staying in hotels, using fake IDs and a Swedish passport belonging to someone else, according to the Costa Rican government.

The man was initially deported to Guatemala, but representatives from the Intelligence and Security Agency of that country brought him back to Costa Rica.

The FBI warned in February 2023 of the possible presence of a member of Al-Shabaab in Costa Rica, Lutrnan Warsame Farah is on the FBI’s list of Terrorism Investigation Center.

Lutrnan Warsame Farah entered Costa Rica on January 4, 2023, using a Swedish passport owned by a man named Luqman Abdi Aziz. He stayed in the country for a month before crossing the border into Nicaragua.

Lutrnan’s father is linked to having facilitated a terrorist attack by Al-Shabaab in Sweden in 2011.

The Costa Rican government said it will deport the man to Somalia.
