The Horn of Africa is a region where violent conflicts and war have ravaged families, communities and nations. The need for peace and security is both urgent and verwhelming. Families and societies need to be rehabilitated and reconstructed.
The Horn of Africa conferences in Lund have from the beginning focused on issues related to peace-building, democratic governance, rule of law, respect of human rights, environment and development.
So far, none of the conferences has yet had an explicit focus on the linkages between peace, security as cornerstone for sustainable development. This time the focus of the conference is set on these linkages.
The opportunity the conference gives politicians, academics, regional national authorities’ representatives and NGOs from the Horn of Africa to meet and discuss with prominent scholars, international organizations (AU, IGAD, EU, USA, Arab League,
UN, Amnesty International, Human Rights Watch, Swedish NGOs and government representatives (UD) is unique.
The overall objective of the conference is to bring together key stakeholders engaged in peace and security issues for the Horn of Africa, by bringing attention to the EU public, international key stakeholders and Horn of Africa scholars about the agonizing and violent situation in the Horn of Africa, to support local track II and III peace processes.
The objective of the conference is to enhance the knowledge and understanding of critical issues to the conflicts in the Horn of Africa amongst EU public and stakeholders, as well as Horn of African stakeholders to become engaged and committed to actively support
local peace processes at track II and III level in the Horn of Africa.
