The African Union delegation has concluded a five-day working visit to Somalia, reaffirming the African Union’s commitment to the completion of the country’s security transition by the end of 2024.<\/p>\n

The delegation led by Alhaji Sarjoh Bah, the director of conflict management in the Department of Politics, Peace and Security of the African Union Commission, said that the African Union will ensure that there will be no security vacuum in Somalia, as it is ready will begin the third phase of the reduction of another 4,000 soldiers until June this year.<\/p>\n

The mission of the African Union team was to define the modalities for the transfer of security responsibility from the African Union Mission in Somalia (ATMIS) to the Somali security forces.<\/p>\n

The African Union delegation also met with United Nations officials, international friends, ambassadors from ATMIS countries that have troops in Somalia, and representatives from civil society.<\/p>\n

The delegation will submit a report to the Security and Peace Council of the African Union and the United Nations Security Council. Their report will outline parameters for the configuration of the ATMIS mission by January 2025.<\/p>\n
