The two Houses of the Federal Parliament of Somalia passed the process of amending the Constitution today on Wednesday.<\/p>\n

180 members of the two houses unanimously passed the amendment to the constitution, and 30 members rejected it, according to the chairman of the council.<\/p>\n

An uproar surrounded the implementation of the process to amend the constitution, with several MPs accusing the speaker of hijacking the assembly.<\/p>\n

Some of the parliamentarians said that without discussing the issue and the quorum was not fully formed, they suggested the amendment of the constitution.<\/p>\n

This action means that the parliament has authorized the amendment of the country’s constitution, as the government of Somalia wants the country to have two parties that will not challenge the power of the country, as well as to remove the position of the prime minister and the country to have a vice president.<\/p>\n

President Hassan Sheikh, who has the support of the National Consultative Council except Puntland, said that the implementation of the agreement to amend the elections is a good step that will lead the country to a better future.<\/p>\n

The country’s politicians, including former presidents and prime ministers, have opposed the agreement on electoral issues, saying it is against the political power sharing in the country.<\/p>\n
