The United States government has welcomed the IGAD summit that will take place on the 18th of January, where the agreement between Ethiopia and Somaliland will be discussed.<\/p>\n

“We welcome the IGAD summit on January 18 to discuss the tensions between Somalia and Ethiopia and the situation in Sudan,” said a statement issued by the US assistant secretary of state.<\/p>\n

The statement also expressed the support of the United States for the independence and territorial integrity of Somalia.<\/p>\n

Djibouti, which is currently the Chairman of the IGAD Regional Organization, announced that an extraordinary meeting will be held to discuss the crisis between Ethiopia and Somalia and the situation in Sudan.<\/p>\n

The Ministry of Foreign Affairs and International Cooperation of Djibouti said in a press release that this summit was called by President Ismail Omar Guelleh who is also the chairman of the IGAD regional organization, and will be hosted by Ugandan President Yoweri Museveni on January 18, 2024.<\/p>\n

The press release said that the summit will discuss two major issues, namely, the worsening conflict between Ethiopia and Somalia regarding the agreement between Ethiopia and Somaliland and the political and security challenges in Sudan.<\/p>\n
