The government of Somalia is competing for a non-permanent seat in the United Nations Security Council, which if Somalia wins, will remain until 2026.<\/p>\n

This seat that Somalia is competing for is a unique African seat, and it will be owned by a country located in East Africa.<\/p>\n

On the 21st of this month, Somalia hopes that the African Union will allow Somalia to become an African candidate for the non-permanent seat of the United Nations Security Council 2025-2026.<\/p>\n

In a statement issued by the Somalia mission to the United Nations, it was said, “Somalia can be trusted to be a leader in the African peace and security agenda of the UNSC as well as in compliance with the principles and conventions of the United Nations in order to establish an international order peaceful, quiet and prosperous.<\/p>\n

The election for this seat, which is part of five non-permanent seats, will be held in mid-2024, during the 78th session of the United Nations General Assembly.<\/p>\n

The winning countries will be among the ten countries that sit in the non-permanent seats of the Security Council, for a period of two years, from January 2025 to 2026.<\/p>\n

The five seats: an African seat, an Asia-Pacific seat, a Latin American and Caribbean seat and two seats for Western Europe and other countries.<\/p>\n

Recently, Somalia gave up on the country of Tanzania in the election of the president of the world parliament, which was won by the speaker of the parliament of Tanzania.<\/p>\n

Somalia said that it has made an agreement with Tanazia to work with him on the seat of the Security Council to help Somalia succeed.<\/p>\n
