The Federal Government of Somalia and the United Nations have formed a committee that will develop a joint strategy to reduce corruption in aid.<\/p>\n

A press release from Somalia’s disaster management agency said that the United Nations investigation report shows the weakness of the humanitarian aid distribution system in Somalia.<\/p>\n

The agency said it is working on a new approach to ensure transparency and reduce subcontracting of aid projects in Somalia.<\/p>\n

The agency said it has launched an investigation into the report issued by the United Nations (UN), which showed cases of diversion of aid inside the country.<\/p>\n

A statement issued by the agency said that the Somali government is unrelentingly committed to dealing with these serious allegations.<\/p>\n

The agency has unequivocally said it is fully committed to prosecuting those found responsible for aid diversion.<\/p>\n

It was a day ago when the European Union temporarily suspended its financial support to the World Food Program (WFP) in Somalia, after it said that widespread theft and misuse of its aid was done in Somalia.<\/p>\n

The investigation conducted by the UN stated that IDPs are forced to pay half of the cash assistance they receive from the WFP, under the threat of being removed from the register of recipients.<\/p>\n
