The Somali government has received 5 million pounds from the British government, through the United Nations Support Office for Somalia (UNSOS), to support the Somali security forces in the fight against Al-Shabaab.<\/p>\n

This amount was announced at a meeting between Somalia’s National Security Adviser, Hussein Sheikh Ali and the UK’s Deputy National Security Adviser for International Affairs, Dame Sarah MacIntosh.<\/p>\n

The two advisers discussed many issues, including the fight against al-Shabaab, the development of the security sector, the lifting of sanctions, and the strategic cooperation between Somalia and the UK.<\/p>\n

This funding is part of the UK’s ongoing contribution to the security and stability of Somalia through the UNSOS Trust Fund, which provides support to the Somali Security Forces.<\/p>\n

UK National Security Adviser Dame Sarah MacIntosh emphasized the importance of this financial support to the search for peace in Somalia.<\/p>\n

“The security partnership between the UK and Somalia is important for the stability and security of Somalia and the region,” said Ms. Sarah McIntosh.<\/p>\n

She reiterated the United Kingdom’s commitment to provide massive support to the Somali government to stabilize the recently liberated areas.<\/p>\n

“The UK will continue to support Somali-led efforts to combat terrorism and restore stability in recaptured areas of the country,” she added.<\/p>\n
