The United States has awarded $2 million to the United Nations Support Fund for Somalia (UNSOS) to strengthen the fight against Al Shabaab.<\/p>\n

UNSOS supports the Somali Security Forces and the African Union Transitional Mission in Somalia (ATMIS) to cooperate in joint operations against Al-Shabaab.<\/p>\n

This prize money will be used to finance the transportation and medical evacuation of the Somali Security Forces in accordance with the mandate of UNSOS.<\/p>\n

“It is important that Somalia’s security forces and ATMIS receive the logistical support needed to defeat al-Shabaab on the battlefield,” said Shane Dixon, US Embassy Charg\u00e9 d’Affaires in Mogadishu.<\/p>\n

“We are proud to support UNSOS, an important partner of the United States and Somalia in our shared mission of promoting peace.” Shane Dixon continued.<\/p>\n

UNSOS is currently mandated to support 15,900 members of the Somali Security Forces, to support the logistical needs of the forces.<\/p>\n

UNSOS said the donation was timely. She said it will positively affect operations in providing emergency logistical support to the Somali Security Forces.<\/p>\n
