The director of Somalia’s presidency, Hussein Sheikh Mohamud, said that the government of Somalia is not planning to extend the period, instead it wants to consolidate the elections at the federal and regional levels.<\/p>\n

The director of the presidency, who told the BBC Somali branch, said that the plan to make the term of office of constitutional institutions 5 years, is a plan for the government after the current government.<\/p>\n

“The mandate of President Hassan Sheikh Mohamud and his parliament is four years. They are completing those four years. There is no federal contribution. If it is 5 years, it will start with the next government,” said the director of the presidency.<\/p>\n

Hussein Sheikh Mohamud, said the government is ready to listen to anyone who has an opinion on the structure of the elections, saying the president is committed to running the country through consultation and consensus.<\/p>\n

He said that the recommendations from the consultation that the president is currently having with the former leaders of the country will end up being presented to the Somali parliament.<\/p>\n
