The Kenyan government has announced that it has delayed the reopening of its border with Somalia, due to security threats from the Al Shabaab group.<\/p>\n

The Secretary of the Ministry of Interior in Kenya, Kithure Kindiki said that the previous plans will be suspended until the threat of terrorism is eliminated, and then the two countries will work together.<\/p>\n

“The two governments have already started talks to open our borders in Kiunga, Liboi and Mandera, but we will postpone the plan as we have recently seen the insurgents in our country, first we will fight them, then we will reopen them. will cross the borders” Kindiki said.<\/p>\n

He made this statement at the Dadaab refugee camp on Wednesday during his regular tour through the northern regions to deal with attacks by terrorist groups.<\/p>\n

Kindiki announced in May this year that Kenya and Somalia have decided to officially open the border in the next 90 days.<\/p>\n

Kindiki confirmed that the government will continue to work with the government of Somalia to develop and implement joint strategies and methods to deal with the issues of social economy and insecurity.<\/p>\n

His statement comes three weeks after Kenya agreed to officially reopen its borders with Somalia in Mandera, Lamu and Garissa within 90 days.<\/p>\n
