The African Union Mission in Somalia (ATMIS) has concluded the first phase of what it calls the reduction of its forces after transferring the last two bases that were part of seven bases.<\/p>\n

The ATMIS mission said that they took this step to enable the reduction of 2000 soldiers.<\/p>\n

All seven stations – Haji Ali, Mirtugo, Adale, Albao, Gherille, Aljazeera1 and Marka Ayoub, have been handed over to the Somali security forces.<\/p>\n

The last two bases to be handed over to the Jubbaland State Government were under the responsibility of the Kenyan Defense Forces as part of ATMIS, while Aljazeera 1 located on the outskirts of the capital Mogadishu was under the responsibility of the Ugandan forces of ATMIS.<\/p>\n

The deputy commander of Jubbaland security forces in Gedo region, Col. Nur Abdi Hussein praised ATMIS troops in Kenya for their participation in the ongoing efforts to restore stability in Somalia.<\/p>\n

Recently, the Security Council of the United Nations delayed the departure of 2000 ATMIS soldiers for a period of six months.<\/p>\n

They said that the security of Somalia is being evaluated and that the Somali forces can take over the responsibility of the security of their country.<\/p>\n
