The governing parliament of Puntland has officially announced that there will be changes in the way of electing the president of Puntland and his deputy.<\/p>\n

The parliament has said that the article 56 of the constitution is to be changed, which states that the president should be elected by the people’s vote.<\/p>\n

The parliament said that this article should be changed so that the people of Puntland elect their own president.<\/p>\n

Also, the parliament said that article 46 of the constitution should be opened, in order to increase the number of parties and adapt the electoral process that is currently being conducted.<\/p>\n

The parliament is also opening the 7th article of the constitution, so that the Gardafu region which was cut off from the Bari region is aligned with the constitution.<\/p>\n

In Puntland, for the past 24 years, a parliament elected by clans elects the president and vice president. It is not known whether this new change will take effect at this time.<\/p>\n

However, there is still a strong dispute over the opening of the constitution, which is the reason for the recent war in Garowe, between the administration and opposition politicians.<\/p>\n
