The Commander of the Uganda Land Forces (UPDF), Lt. Gen. Kayanja Muhanga was sent to Somalia to find out the circumstances of the Al-Shabaab attack on the Ugandan Army base in Buulo Mareer.<\/p>\n

On Friday at 5 am, Ugandan troops who are part of the Transitional Mission in Somalia (ATMIS) attacked a military base in Buulo Mareer area, 120 km southwest of the capital city of Mogadishu.<\/p>\n

The Defense Spokesman, Brig Felix Kulayije said that the Ugandan army is unrelentingly committed to its operations in Somalia.<\/p>\n

“The command of the Uganda Defense Force condemns the attack by Al-Shabaab terrorists on our soldiers. However, this does not stop us from our commitment to the mandate of ATMIS in ensuring peace and stability in Africa,\u201d said Kulayije.<\/p>\n

Yesterday, al-Shabaab took over the camp of the Ugandan army in Buulo Mareer, after they launched a serious attack that caused heavy losses.<\/p>\n

Al-Shabaab handed over the prisoners of the Ugandan army. They also burnt a tank and other military vehicles.<\/p>\n

Some of the bodies of Ugandan soldiers were seen scattered in the camp, and Al-Shabaab said they killed around 150 Ugandan soldiers in the attack.<\/p>\n
