The Commander of the Somali National Army, Brigadier General Ibrahim Mohamed Mohamud, held a meeting with Colonel Dr. Justus Musenene, Commander of the 45th Battalion of the Ugandan contingent serving under the African Union mission in Somalia (ATMIS).<\/p>\n
The meeting took place yesterday at the headquarters of the 8th Battalion of the Somali National Army in the Embresso area, located near the town of Baraawe in the Lower Shabelle region.<\/p>\n
The two sides discussed the plan to reduce the number of ATMIS troops in Somalia, the enhancement and capacity-building of the Somali forces, and the strategy for the gradual transfer of national security responsibilities to the government\u2019s forces.<\/p>\n
The Commander of the Somali National Army expressed his gratitude to the Ugandan forces for their self-sacrifice, professionalism, and the role they have played in efforts to ensure peace and stability in Somalia.<\/p>\n
Furthermore, he commended the leadership of the Ugandan Ministry of Defence for their commitment to African cooperation and the strengthening of relations between the two nations. For his part, Colonel Justus Musenene stated that the AUSSOM mission focuses on training, mentoring, and enhancing the capabilities of Somali forces, enabling them to independently conduct security operations.<\/p>\n
He also welcomed the commendations directed toward the Ugandan forces and encouraged the Somali troops to build upon the successes achieved during their joint operations.<\/p>\n
The meeting also reviewed progress made in security operations and programs aimed at addressing ideological awareness among the forces.<\/p>\n
