Police stated that the incident stemmed from the case of Zamzam Mohamud Ilmi, who arrived at the hospital on September 19; she underwent surgery and gave birth to a son the following day, September 20.<\/p>\n
According to the police, the mother\u2019s family was low-income and unable to cover medical and hospitalization costs. Consequently, the hospital administration filed a complaint against the child’s father, who was arrested over the treatment-related expenses.<\/p>\n
Police reported that on September 28, the Office of the National Prosecutor General issued an order directing that the mother and her child be rescued from their situation and that legal procedures be followed.<\/p>\n
Police forces stated that they delivered the order to the hospital administration and instructed them to release the mother and her child. However, according to the police, the hospital administration refused to release the mother and her child, insisting that the outstanding fees be paid first, while hospitalization costs continued to accrue.<\/p>\n
The police also stated that the mother was facing poor care conditions and had spent several days in the hospital without receiving adequate food.<\/p>\n
When police officers arrived to enforce the order, a standoff and a confrontation ensued between the officers and the hospital administration, as detailed in a press release.<\/p>\n
The police reported that the situation escalated to the point of defiance and the use of weapons, compelling the officers to enter the hospital with their firearms to rescue the mother and her child.<\/p>\n
A video of the incident circulated on social media, showing a chaotic scene inside the hospital as people and patients fled the area.<\/p>\n
The Banadir Regional Police Command stated that carrying weapons into public places is prohibited and that an investigation into the incident is currently underway. The police stated that the hospital administration and anyone found to be involved in illegal acts or wrongdoing related to the incident would be brought before the court, with any measures taken against them being in accordance with the law.<\/p>\n
