The United States and Israel have carried out airstrikes on military sites in southern Iran, amid ongoing talks in Qatar, with the United States saying on Tuesday that the talks were progressing well.<\/p>\n
The United States said it had struck missile sites and mine-laying vessels off Iran\u2019s southern coast in what it called \u201cself-defense.\u201d Iranian media reported that large explosions were heard in the port city of Bandar Abbas, which is on the Strait of Hormuz.<\/p>\n
Satellite images showed smoke rising from the strikes, which came as the war between Iran, the United States and Israel entered a new and more dangerous phase.<\/p>\n
Meanwhile, a high-ranking Iranian delegation arrived in Qatar for talks aimed at ending the conflict. An Iranian Foreign Ministry spokesman said progress had been made in the talks, but no agreement was imminent.<\/p>\n
US President Donald Trump has said that any peace deal would depend on regional countries such as Saudi Arabia, Pakistan and Turkey joining the Abraham Accords, which normalise relations with Israel.<\/p>\n
Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu has also ordered heavy airstrikes against Hezbollah in Lebanon, saying his country is \u201cat war\u201d with the group.<\/p>\n
