The Cabinet of the Federal Government of Somalia held its regular meeting today, which focused on the drought situation across the country and its severe impact on access to water and food.<\/p>\n

The meeting, chaired by the Prime Minister of the Federal Republic of Somalia, Hamsa Abdi Barre, presented detailed reports reflecting the extent of the drought, the humanitarian challenges it has caused, and the emergency plans that the Government intends to address the current situation.<\/p>\n

During the meeting, the Cabinet officially approved the Regulation of the National Fund for Risk and Disaster Management, which establishes a legal and administrative framework that integrates preparedness, prevention and response to natural and man-made disasters, with the overall objective of strengthening cooperation between society and the Government.<\/p>\n

The Cabinet also ratified international agreements and conventions that are important for the development of government institutions and the improvement of the services they provide, namely:<\/p>\n

A Cooperation Agreement between the Federal Government of Somalia and the Government of Turkey, concerning cooperation in maritime transport, the Maritime Workers\u2019 Convention (2006), the Nairobi International Convention for the Removal of Wrecks of Ships of 2007 and the International Convention on Tonnage Measurement of Ships of 1969.<\/p>\n

On the other hand, the Cabinet heard a detailed report from the National Committee for Combating Smuggling and Trafficking in Persons, which presented the real situation of smuggling and the serious problems it poses to Somali youth.<\/p>\n

The report particularly highlighted the risks to life and property faced by young people who engage in smuggling, including death, injury, imprisonment, abuse and exploitation, which directly affect their future and the overall development of the country.<\/p>\n
