Somali Prime Minister Hamse Abdi Barre has said that the Federal Government is committed to completing the revision of the Transitional Federal Constitution, despite disagreements within the Federal Parliament and opposition from some regional state leaders.<\/p>\n

The Prime Minister made the remarks at an event held at the Ministry of Defense in Mogadishu, marking the handover of the post of Commander of the Somali National Army.<\/p>\n

He noted that the government will not allow political deadlock to hinder the country\u2019s progress.<\/p>\n

\u201cYou know that the completion of the constitution is ongoing, and the government does not accept remaining in a state of stagnation, the country needs to move forward,\u201d said Prime Minister Hamse Abdi Barre.<\/p>\n

The Prime Minister\u2019s remarks come at a time when efforts to amend the constitution have been marred by clashes that were later broken up by police inside the Federal Parliament, where opposition lawmakers blocked the floor of the chamber and clashed with security forces.<\/p>\n

The Transitional Constitution remains one of the most contentious political documents in Somalia, with the success of its revision dependent on resolving disputes between the central government and the regional states.<\/p>\n

It was also noted that the term of the Federal Parliament ends in April 2026, while that of the President of the Federal Republic of Somalia ends in May 2026, further increasing the political pressure surrounding the completion of the constitution.<\/p>\n
