<\/p>\nThe House of the People and the Upper House of the Federal Parliament of Somalia have suspended members of parliament from attending, after they were accused of disrupting joint sessions of the two houses at the House of the People (Villa Hargaisa) on 28 January 2026.<\/p>\n
The suspended members were ordered not to attend 12 joint sessions on the review of the Constitution, with this step taken to maintain order and security in the House, and ensure that the work of the parliament continues smoothly.<\/p>\n
In addition, some other members who were allegedly involved in disruptive acts have been sent formal warnings.<\/p>\n
The Security Command of the House of the People has been directed to take measures in accordance with the House Rules of Procedure to ensure the safety of members and staff of the House, according to two statements issued by the House of the People and the Upper House.<\/p>\n
The Speaker of the House of the People, Sheikh Aden Mohamed Nur (Madobe), said that this step is necessary to prevent such incidents from happening again, and to protect the honor and dignity of Parliament.<\/p>\n
Finally, an administrative decision issued by the Office of the First Deputy Speaker of the Upper House, Ali Shabaan Ibrahim, suspended Senators Leyla Nur Maax and Abdullahi Sheikh Ismail (Fartaag) from participating in joint sessions of the two Houses for 12 sessions, following disturbances and violations of the Rules of Procedure of the Upper House by the two Senators during a joint session of the two Houses on January 28, 2026.<\/p>\n
